Top 5 Places to Propose in Chicago

1. Skydeck

The Skydeck boasts an unparalleled viewpoint of the city skyline as it is located at the pinnacle of Chicago. It’s located on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower, which was formerly known as the Sears Tower, and is the world’s third tallest building. You should most definitely take your girlfriend here to take in the breathtaking sweeping views while you get down on one knee. The Glass Ledge is probably the most dramatic place to propose because of the views of some of Chicago’s most well known attractions such as The Millennium Park and The Navy pier. There are activities such as interactive exhibits to make this trip a little more interesting although once your girlfriend sees the view she will be totally blown away and probably won’t be interested in the exhibits.

2. Wrigley Buildings

Wrigley Buildings is a skyscraper which is situated immediately across Michigan Ave near the Tribune Tower which is on the Magnificent Mile. This sparkling white construction has become the symbol of the city due to its magnificent presence. However, in order to create the perfect romantic environment you should wait until nightfall in order to take advantage of the spectacular lighting effects, which should compliment your engagement ring quite nicely as you present it!

3. Buckingham Fountain

Buckingham Fountain is located in Grant Park in the city and rises more than seven meters high. It consists of three layers of basins which are surrounded by no less than four pairs of seahorses. It is one of the biggest fountains in the world and you can make your visit between April and October. Be treated to a water display between 8am and 11pm, where the display is set to music and beautiful lights to create a real extravaganza for you and your partner. The water display begins with small sprays before building up slowly to its exciting climax. You can explain to your girlfriend that you chose the fountain because, as well as being aesthetically pleasing, you liked the romantic idea of the seahorses because they mate for life.

4. Chicago Water Tower

The Water Tower was built between 1867 and 1869 and was originally created for Chicago’s municipal water system. It has become the city’s most familiar and treasured landmark due to the fact that it survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It’s an incredibly romantic place because it resembles a miniature European medieval castle, so your lady will feel just like a princess. Although it has been threatened with demolition many times, it was finally restored to its former glory back in 1962. There is something quite romantic about the history of the Water Tower, given that it has survived so much and still stands proud and beautiful. You could compare your relationship to the Tower and tell your girlfriend that your love is so strong that it can withstand anything that life throws at it.

5. Cloud Gate

Locals refer to Cloud Gate as ‘the bean’ because, as you can imagine, it looks like an enormous bean! It’s a public sculpture by a British artist and is an impressive 66 ft long and 33 ft high. Although it was created using a vast amount of stainless steel plates, it has a seamless surface because the structure was polished for hours on end. You can point to your reflections on Cloud Gate and while your girlfriend is peering at herself you can use these precious seconds to get down on one knee. On a bright clear day, the surface offers an amazing reflection of the city skyline which makes Cloud Gate a ‘must see’ place. Once you have popped the ring onto her finger you could both walk underneath ‘the bean’ and poke fun at one another in the fun house style magic mirrors.
