Kevin and Madi’s Video Marriage Proposal

What’s better than a beautiful marriage proposal video? Hearing about the story behind the video! This week I’m honored to feature Madi and Kevin’s lovely video marriage proposal story.

Please introduce yourselves

My fiance’s name is Madi Dodd and I am Kevin White.

Could you please share the story behind your proposal, including the planning that went into it

I wanted to surprise Madi, so I planted a few white lies here and there to get her “off my trail” you could say. I told her I was studying for class or out running so that we could get time to film most of this. My good friends Sam and Tyler are pretty nifty with the camera and editing so I thought this would be a good idea. I’m not sure where the idea came from except that I threw this idea to my friend Sam about getting Madi to show up somewhere and surprising her with a video of some sorts. We tossed around a few ideas and even had the Utah State University Football field reserved (we go to school here in Logan, Utah) to show it on the megatron, but soon threw that out as I know she hates the cold and it was about 10 degrees outside.

After some planning and writing a script out, we woke up early on the Saturday before I asked her and did most of the filming, with some little parts on Friday with her family when she was at work and some parts on Sunday when she was at church. The original plan was to film it all on Saturday, edit and and ask her that night, but the ring didn’t come on time and that was postponed, a blessing in disguise. The filming went well, people threw in funny ideas like the banana suit and her dad holding the rifle and it went great.

The scene that took the most takes was the little scene with her Mom. She just could not stop laughing, and it was such a simple scene, hug and then I walk away. It was so fun to get her family involved and also my own through Skype and even friends that have meant so much to us in the video too. That really was the purpose of this whole video. I have never felt like the greatest speaker so I wanted to review places and people that have meant so much to us throughout our time knowing each other.

She works until about 6 on Mondays, so I told her we were going to make her and my friend’s wife dinner because they were having a rough day – true story, she was honestly having a rough day. We set everything up at my friend’s house, I rehearsed what I was going to do a few times and impatiently waited like a nervous wreck for her to get off of work. I even watched the movie Easy A as I laid on the floor rolling around like a nervous wreck!

This might be kind of creepy but I followed where she was on the ‘Find Friends’ app on my iPhone and when she got close I snuck out around to a neighboring apartment and waited for it to all happen. My friend that was in another room in the apartment texted me when she started the video, so I walked up to the door and listened in on the video myself. I was nervous as I could be but also it was one of the happiest moments of my life.

The video ended, she came to the door and opened it, and I told her how much she means to me, and then asked her to marry me. Luckily she said yes and I stuck the ring on her finger! We celebrated with family and friends right after. What a great day that was!

We get married on April 12th this year and are both extremely excited!
