The author, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, is a romance and relationship expert and claims to still have faith in romance even in this modern era of high divorce rates. Currently engaged to be married for the third time, Dr. Schwartz says that romance is about the little things and that in many ways the way romance is portrayed in the popular press (for example, in Hollywood) can hurt true romance by forcing people into performing costly grand gestures.
